Plymouth, Mass.– ex-husband of A Massachusetts woman is on trial The witness returned to the witness stand Wednesday for the murders of his three young children, testifying about a day that began with art projects and playtime in the snow and ended with coming home to find bodies.

Patrick Clancy has said in interviews that he forgives his ex-wife, whom he considered evil rather than evil.
He was the first witness to take the stand Monday, when he testified about his ex-wife’s deteriorating mental health in the months before the murders, including describing intrusive thoughts about harming the children and suicide. But she said she was feeling better until two weeks before the murders.
Patrick Clancy ended his testimony by describing the day he died, which he said had begun as one of his “best days.” Lindsay Clancy took Cora to the doctor and then returned home to build snowmen and work on art projects with her children.
If convicted of murder, Lindsey Clancy faces life in prison without parole. If found not guilty due to lack of criminal responsibility, he will be committed to a state mental health facility.
The hearing took a break on Tuesday before resuming on Wednesday.
It is estimated that only 1 to 2 out of every 1,000 women suffer from postpartum psychosis after delivery. Experts at the Cleveland Clinic describe it as a mental health emergency that affects one’s sense of reality.
On the day of the murders, Clancy said he heard voices telling him, “This is your last chance. Kill the kids so you can kill yourself,” according to his attorney.
postpartum depression There is a mood disorder that can also be dangerous but it is much more common.
Postpartum psychosis can happen to anyone after giving birth, but it is more likely to occur in people with certain mental health conditions. In a 2023 journal article on the topic, researchers at the Medical University of Lublin in Poland said that about half of people with postpartum psychosis have a previous history of psychiatric problems and that the most common risk factor associated with the condition is bipolar affective disorder, which causes extreme mood swings.
Clancy’s lawyer said she has bipolar disorder and that her condition was worsened by antidepressants given after the birth of her third child. Clancy sought care from specialists for post-pregnancy mood disorders, was given several psychiatric medications, and when nothing worked, checked into a psychiatric hospital. He murdered the children 19 days after being discharged.
