The UConn men’s basketball team will try to win its third NCAA title in the last four years on Monday night in Indianapolis.
The Huskies, led by eighth-year coach Dan Hurley, won consecutive titles in 2023 and 2024, defeating San Diego State and Purdue in the national championship. The 53-year-old Hurley, who reportedly turned down an offer from the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024, has an overall record of 198-74 since joining the men’s college basketball program in Storrs, Conn. in 2018.
More information on the national championship matchup
UConn, which has given the Big East a financial boost with its consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, defeated Illinois 71-62 on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in the first Final Four matchup. With a win on Monday, UConn’s Hurley will become the only active division hurler. I am a men’s college basketball coach with more than two national championships.
The Huskies, who have a chance to win their seventh national championship in men’s basketball, will meet Michigan, which defeated Arizona 91–73 in the other Final Four semifinal. The Wolverines’ win against the Wildcats is the program’s eighth consecutive win in a Final Four semifinal contest.
Michigan last played in a national championship in 2018 when it lost to Villanova. Michigan is 1–6 all-time in the NCAA title game. A Wolverines victory against the Huskies would be the first national championship for the Big Ten since 2000 when Michigan State defeated Florida.
Meanwhile, Wolverines head coach Dusty May, who joined Michigan in 2024, has compiled a 63-13 mark in two seasons in Ann Arbor, Michigan, including earning Big Ten Coach of the Year honors during the 2025-26 campaign. May, 49, also led FAU to the Final Four in 2024 before departing for the Wolverines.
