The story for the UWCL quarter-finals
Chelsea attempt comeback against Arsenal: Arsenal are on the move across town and will look to get the job done against Chelsea as they continue their title defence.
Despite a strong start against the Gunners and a world-class goal from Lauren James, Arsenal have been at their best in the tournament and that has been finding form at the right time. The two sides may have a history of rivalry on the domestic front, but Arsenal have the bragging rights in the Champions League.
For U.S. Women’s National Team fans, it will be the Americans facing off with Naomi Girma and Alyssa Thompson on Chelsea, against Emily Fox on Arsenal.
FC Barcelona on cruise control? The former title winners are hoping for 52,000 supporters at the Camp Nou to help them seal another UWCL semi-final spot and shatter Real Madrid’s dreams. Barcelona have the home ground support as well as a four-goal lead, and a number of players who can take over games, from Alexia Putellas to Patrice Guajiro, or even next-generation talent in Vicky López.
There’s always hope, but Real Madrid need a miracle this week.
Can Wolfsburg upset OL Lyon? The German side took the game to OLE Lyon last week, leaving the perennial contenders looking for answers. Even more impressive than securing the win was keeping OL forward Melchi Dumornay off the scoresheet.
Still, this is the Champions League. It’s one thing to do a near-perfect performance once, but it’s another thing to do it twice. If Lineth Birenstein can get on the scoreboard again for Wolfsburg, they will have a good chance of pulling off an upset.
