New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr smashed a brilliant unbeaten 179 off 139 balls, leading her team to chase 346 against South Africa in the most successful run chase in women’s ODI history.
With the help of Laura Wolvaardt’s 69 runs in 74 balls, Anneke Bosch’s 91 runs in 90 balls and Chloe Tryon’s 52 runs in 25 balls, South Africa scored 346-6 in the second ODI of the series against the Kiwis.
In New Zealand’s reply, Kerr came in at 21–1 and hit 23 fours and one six at a strike rate of 128.78 during her match-winning innings.
They were helped by Izzy Gayes, who scored 68 off 48 balls, helping the Kiwis reach their target with two balls to spare and score 350-8 to level the series.
The previous highest successful target in women’s ODI cricket was when India scored 341-5 to reach the target of 338 set by Australia in the World Cup semi-final last October.
Kerr is no stranger to heroics, especially against South Africa, as he inspired New Zealand to victory against them in the T20 World Cup final in 2024.
She was also the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year in 2024.
Kerr also holds the record for the highest individual innings in women’s ODI, having scored an unbeaten 232 against Ireland at the age of 17 in 2018.
