Artemis II astronauts have broken the record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth by humans.
The previous record of 248,655 miles (400,171 km) was set by the Apollo 13 crew in 1970.
Artemis II would eventually beat this record by about 4,102 miles, reaching a maximum distance of 252,757 miles from Earth.
As soon as the new record was set, the Artemis II crew challenged future generations to ensure that it would “not be long lived”.
