important quotes
The official description of the series describes it as “an investigative reporter’s explosive account of how he exposed the secret plea deal between Epstein and federal prosecutors. Drawing from Brown’s experience as a leading reporter for the Miami Herald, the book and limited series follow his tireless years-long investigation that identified 80 victims, convinced key survivors to go on the record, and led to the arrests of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.”
main background
Brown and the Miami Herald’s reporting are widely considered to be one of the major factors leading to Epstein’s arrest in 2019. The investigation revealed how Epstein secured an extremely generous and controversial plea deal in 2008, allegedly using his connections to avoid a long-term sentence. He served 13 months of an 18-month sentence in the county jail after facing charges of trafficking dozens of underage girls. Brown interviewed several victims and worked with Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s most high-profile accusers, who released a book last year about her encounters with Epstein, Maxwell and their associates. Giuffre died by suicide in 2025, less than six months before the release of her book “Nobody’s Girl”.
