which day Scottish FA announced, external Football is now the number one sport among girls and women in Scotland, with participation levels increasing by 23% over the past two years – overtaking tennis for the first time – with the national team boss stressing the importance of capitalizing on momentum at all levels of the game.
“We saw what major tournament qualification can do in 2017 and 2019 and it’s on us to keep building on that and keep moving forward,” the former Australia assistant said.
“When physical activity has so many health benefits—physically, socially, mentally—why stop?
“The world is becoming harder, it’s easy to become lonely, isolated and lost touch and I think football is a great medium to reconnect people with each other.
“So we have an opportunity when we do it again in 2027, take advantage of that opportunity and accelerate the game and get it in front of everyone on TV, radio, ticket sales – everyone is getting behind this team like they have people.
“I can’t wait to see it because it’s inevitable.
“Words can’t describe what this means to all the staff and players, but I can assure everyone that we are going to give everything we have to make this dream come true – blood, sweat, tears and whatever it takes to get there.”
