Rue equates faith with happiness Excitement Season 3 premieres and so she sets out to develop her own sense of faith in God. The focus on religion is a sharp contrast to previous seasons, which reintroduced Christian iconography and motifs to depict love, loss, and longing.
Rue appears to have a more candid approach, telling Ali (Colman Domingo) that if she’s going to try faith, she’ll take everything it says in the Bible as truth. There will be no middle path for him. However, this does not mean that the disorder will not occur.

Why is Rue working for Laurie?
Season 3 introduces viewers to Rue’s life five years after high school. Although she seems sober, she is even more deeply tied to drugs than before. Last season, Rue took a suitcase full of narcotics from monotone queenpin Laurie (Martha Kelly). She was going to sell it, but got a very high price instead and then her mother threw it all away.
As a result of a $10,000 debt her mother unknowingly placed on her, Roo is almost seen turning to smuggling to cover the losses. She managed to escape and the nightmare she almost found herself in was the catalyst for her sobriety. However, Laurie never stopped looking for Rue and once she found her working at a smoke shop, she came to collect the debt.
Laurie tells him she is owed $43 million dollars, but she will settle for $100,000. With no way to repay the debt, Rue eventually sold her body to Laurie. However it is not in the form of an inanimate, heroine-filled toy that is bought and sold, but in the form of a drug mule that fills its body with products to take to the US-Mexico border.
This is dangerous and no one in Rue’s life except Faye (Chloe Cherry) knows she is doing it. And that’s only because Faye is body packing too. Both of them are gambling with their lives. If they are caught at the border, they will have to face jail. If any of the bags rupture, they die.
Rue is nothing new in this Russian roulette-esque game. She played it in Season 2 when she took fentanyl. Excitement Season 3 also begins with the sound of Rue staggering into the bucket of a car along the border wall. She regularly gets out of impossible situations by the skin of her teeth. However, it is not through faith. Rue is completely carefree and tosses her life like tossing a coin, hoping for the best.
But this season she wants more than just getting the moment. She wants to be happy, and she thinks she can achieve that feeling through God. Enter Step 3 of the 12-Step Program—Deciding to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Reason Rue Wants to Believe in God
Rue comes to this realization after spending the night in the Millers’ barn. She met the ultra-Christian family in Texas and sold them a story about how she was writing an exposé for her college newspaper about drugs flowing over the border. They do not interact much with the secular world, and she considered their humble and lovely home to be the height of contentment.
When she shared her thoughts with Lexi (Maude Apatow), her friend described what Rue had experienced as cultural behavior. Also, in hypocritical fashion, Lexie said she can’t be friends with a Christian because they’re too judgmental. But Ali, himself a man of faith, listened as Rue worked out his ideas.
He didn’t let Rue turn him away from religion, telling him that he liked girls. At their table in the restaurant they frequented, they debated whether sexual orientation should prevent one from becoming a Christian. Ali waved away Rue’s argument, saying that these passages refer to men, not women, and that they are in the context of their time.
Their disrespectful discussion triggers Rue’s leap of faith and she wastes no time listening to Genesis on audio, much to the discomfort of the passenger she is driving as an Uber driver.

Introduction to Alamo Brown
ExcitementViewers can expect Rue’s exploration of Christianity to be viewed through the same provocative lens with which the show views everything else. For example, when she meets Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), the audience is introduced to the idea of her being “a little piece of heaven.”
As if it were the Garden of Eden, she was warned not to touch anything while dropping off drugs at the strip club owner’s house, but was tempted by bikini-clad and topless women floating and dancing in various rooms.
They were his forbidden fruits. Her and Alamo’s shared affinity for women opened the door for Rue to talk about her dream job. She wants to work in a strip club where beauty, skin and sexuality rule. His job description? Troubleshooter/Troubleshooter. The two continued to fight until Tish, whom Rue had earlier helped in the bathroom, died of a fentanyl overdose.
Alamo became angry. She thought Rue had consumed drugs, but failed to explain that she had nothing to do with what happened. She was thinking that it was God who brought her and the Alamo together. That was going to be the same way she got out from under Laurie’s thumb.
To see if Rue believed in God the same way she did, Alamo took her outside and placed a green apple over her head with the intention of shooting her. She was scared, but when he fired the shot without hurting her she started laughing loudly. She had once again come out of a life-threatening situation safely.
This time Rue might see it as God taking care of her rather than the dice turning in her favor. However, he is at the beginning of his journey with faith. The emphasis on the vast desert land of the West in this season means that we may face many trials and tribulations, which is consistent with the Biblical teachings he is hearing while on the road. And his black-and-white beliefs will certainly be tested.
