In support of her four-week Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper “Choosin’ Texas,” Ella Langley brought together a star-studded cast for the heartbreaking song’s official video, which premiered on Wednesday (April 1).
With Langley, Video Features yellowstone Actor and singer/songwriter Luke Grimes, actress Ava Phillippe (daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe), multiple CMA Award winner Miranda Lambert (who also co-wrote the song) and Oklahoma singer/songwriter Kaitlynn Butts. The clip was directed by Langley, Wells Tony and Kelly Robillard and was filmed at the Stagecoach Ballroom in Fort Worth, Texas.
Grimes stars in the video clip as Langley’s boyfriend when they return to his character’s hometown of Abilene, Texas. As they enter town, Langley’s character asks, “Do you ever wish you never left Texas?”
They stop at a local bar, when Grimes’ character notices a young blonde woman (Philippa) across the room. Later flashbacks reveal that the two knew each other since childhood, and were previously in a relationship.
Butts portrays an Abilene local who meets Langley in the bar’s restroom and quietly warns him, “Texas has a way of keeping what’s his.” Back on the dance floor, Grimes’ character can’t help but notice her ex-boyfriend staring at her, while Langley’s character quickly realizes a connection between the two.
Lambert plays a musician who is ready to move back to Tennessee. When Langley admits that she has realized her man is falling in love with another woman, Lambert offers to move Langley back to Tennessee. Langley’s character agrees, getting into the van with Lambert. As the van hits the road, through the rear windshield, viewers see Grimes’ character exiting the bar and looking around confused as her ex-boyfriend abandons her in the Texas dust.
In addition to Langley, Grimes, Lambert, Phillippe and Butts in their lead roles, the video features cameos from cowboys, ropers, bareback riders and musicians including Dale Brisby, JB Mauney, Shad Mayfield, Tyson Durfee, Shea Fisher Durfee, Leighton Berry, Casey Donahue, Tanner Usre, Wade Bowen, Mike Ryan and Melinda Donahue.
“Chosin’ Texas” is featured on Langley’s upcoming album dandelionOut April 10th.
